Statute overview

About this statute

This Act sets factory safety, health, welfare, registration, inspection, and working-condition duties. Factories must keep workplaces safe and sanitary, including lighting, drinking water, latrines, spittoons, and machine safeguards. Factories must provide several worker welfare facilities, limit working hours, protect children, and pay overtime and leave entitlements. The provision allows factory leave schemes to be lodged with the Chief Inspector, requires displayed notice and renewal notice, protects leave applications from refusal except under the scheme, and requires payment for untaken leave in certain termination or quitting cases. The provision says workers cannot be charged for facilities or equipment under the Act, and inspectors must keep certain complaint-related and business information confidential.
