Statute overview

About this statute

This text is the opening statement of the law: Parliament approved it and the President promulgates it. This article replaces Article 1 of the consolidated rules for elections to the Chamber of Deputies. The Chamber of Deputies is elected by universal, direct, equal, free, and secret vote, using lists of competing candidates. Citizens have the right to vote, and voting is described as a civic duty. The Republic must guarantee and promote the free exercise of that right. Political parties or organized political groups may link their lists into a coalition, but the link declarations must be mutual.
