Statute overview

About this statute

This is the preamble of the law on sanitary policing of livestock and the improvement of horses, cattle, and pigs. Public-administration regulations set measures to prevent or combat contagious or epizootic diseases in domestic animals, and an agricultural government member may decree temporary or urgent measures. This article lists the animal diseases covered by sanitary police measures or slaughter, and lets public administration regulations add more diseases or remove diseases that no longer need those measures. The State must compensate owners of slaughtered animals if it is later found the animal was not diseased; if autopsy shows the animal was diseased, the indemnity is two-thirds. The State also pays the costs of enforcing this law. Des règlements d'administration publique fixeront les modalités d'évaluation et de réduction des indemnités, les modalités de réclamation, ainsi que les taxes liées à la visite sanitaire des animaux domestiques étrangers importés.
