Statute overview

About this statute

This is the preamble of a 18 June 1969 law on higher education and the recognition of foreign higher-education degrees and diplomas. The old Luxembourg jury-based system for awarding grades and titles is abolished and replaced by a system for approving equivalent foreign grades and titles. Foreign higher-education exams, degrees, diplomas, and examination titles are recognized only by homologation from the Minister of Education, after advice from ad hoc commissions. Les commissions d'homologation sont nommées par arrêté grand-ducal pour chaque discipline, et un règlement grand-ducal fixe leur composition, leurs attributions et la procédure à suivre. Foreign higher-education diplomas may be submitted for homologation only if the applicant also has a recognised secondary-school completion certificate; the Education Minister may list diplomas or documents that qualify without further examination.
