Statute overview
About this statute
This provision is the preamble to a law that says article 1397 of the Civil Code is repealed and replaced. Spouses may change their matrimonial property regime after two years, by notarial deed, within the limits of article 1387. The act changing the matrimonial regime must be notified or delivered with a receipt to the civil registrar of the place where the marriage took place. If spouses have made a marriage contract, the modifying deed must be served on or handed to the notary holding the original minute; that notary must note the new contract on the minute and may not issue copies without repeating that note. Article 873 is repealed.
