Statute overview
About this statute
This preamble identifies the regulation on labeling food containing quinine or caffeine and lists the legal bases consulted. Quinine and/or caffeine used as flavouring in making a food must be listed in the ingredients list under their specific name, immediately after the word “flavouring”. Drinks with more than 150 mg of caffeine per litre must carry the statement “High caffeine content” on the label, with the caffeine amount shown in mg per 100 ml. Drinks based on coffee or tea, or their extracts, are exempt if their sales name includes “coffee” or “tea”. La commercialisation de produits non conformes est interdite à partir du 1er juillet 2004. Le ministre de la Santé est chargé d’exécuter le règlement, qui sera publié au Mémorial.
