Short title

This provision says the Act may be cited as the National Assembly (Emoluments) Act.

Interpretation

This section defines “Assembly” as the National Assembly of Malawi and “member” as a member of the Assembly, unless the context requires otherwise.

2. Interpretation In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires— “ Assembly ” means the National Assembly of Malawi; “ member ” means a member of the Assembly .

Salaries and allowances of members

Members are entitled to be paid salaries, fees, and allowances for their services, at a rate the President may authorize by Gazette order.

3. Salaries and allowances of members The members shall be paid, from moneys provided for the purpose by Parliament, salaries, fees and allowances in respect of their services as members at such rate as the President may from time to time by order published in the Gazette authorize. [9 of 1977]

Decisions of the President final

If there is a question about whether a member is entitled to a payment under the Act or an order made under it, the President’s decision is final.

4. Decisions of the President final If any question arises as to whether any member is or is not entitled to any payment under this Act or any order made thereunder, the decision of the President on such question shall be final.
