Statute overview

About this statute

This section gives the Act’s short title: Temporary Control of Premises Act. This Act applies to certain premises previously covered by the 1944 Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restriction) Ordinance, but not to premises that meet the stated tenancy-agreement exception. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including landlord, tenant, premises, prescribed date, statutory tenancy, tenancy agreement, and tribunal. The Minister may establish rent tribunals, appoint their members, and appoint a deputy chairman. Tribunals may also hire staff. People acting for a tribunal are protected from liability for bona fide acts done under the Act. This provision sets how a tribunal conducts meetings, hears evidence, gives notice, records proceedings, and makes decisions.
