Statute overview

About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title and says it does not apply to certain agreements. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including agreement, goods, hire-purchase agreement, instalment sale agreement, purchase price, purchaser, seller, and writing. Part I does not apply to agreements where the purchase price exceeds fifteen hundred pounds, but sections 4, 22, and 23 still apply. Every agreement must be in writing, signed by or for all parties, and state the cash price. The seller must give the purchaser a copy of their agreement as soon as possible after it is made.
