About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title: the Riot Damages Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act. After a riot with damage or injury, the District Commissioner may declare a restricted area and must publish that declaration and report to the Minister. A District Commissioner may control access to restricted areas, subject to the Minister’s directions. People who force entry, obstruct officers, ignore reasonable orders, or give false or no answers commit an offence and may be arrested without warrant. People living in a restricted area cannot change residence without written permission from the District Commissioner or an authorized person.
