This provision gives the Act its short title: the Liquor Act. This section defines terms used in the Act, including different kinds of liquor, licences, premises, authorities, and shareholding thresholds. Each local authority area is a licensing area, and the Minister may expand a licensing area by Gazette notice. Each area must have a licensing officer, designated by the Minister, and that officer is the licensing authority for the area unless section 5 says otherwise. The Minister may establish Local Licensing Boards by Gazette notice, and each Board must have the specified members and act as the licensing authority for its area.
