About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title: the Local Government Service Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act. This section unifies local government services into one Local Government Service and restricts who may be appointed to permanent local authority posts after commencement. A former local authority member may choose to join the Service by giving written notice to the Minister within six months after commencement of the Act. After six months from commencement, people covered by section 4 cannot elect to join or join the Service under that section.
