About this statute

This section says the Act may be cited as the Refugees Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including border, competent officer, refugee, Committee, and refugee conventions. A Refugee Committee is established, with specified members. Some invited observers and up to three additional persons may attend, but they cannot vote. The Minister must designate one Committee member as Chairman, and the Committee must elect a Vice-Chairman from among its members. The Committee must meet at times and places set by the Chairman, and it may determine its own procedure.
