About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title: the Reserve Bank of Malawi Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act. The Reserve Bank of Malawi is set up as a body corporate, may hold and deal with property for its functions, has its head office in Lilongwe, may open branches in Malawi, and may appoint agents and correspondents under the Board’s decisions. The Bank has a list of principal objectives, and when carrying them out it must consider the national economy and the Government’s economic policies. The Bank must remain independent and generally cannot be directed by any person or authority, except as allowed by the Act.
