About this statute

This section says the Act may be cited as the Roads Authority Act. This section defines terms used in the Act, including Administration, Authority, Minister, public road, road, road agency, and Roads Fund. The Roads Authority is established as a body corporate, with a common seal and legal capacity to hold property, sue and be sued, and do corporate acts. The Authority must keep public roads constructed, maintained, or rehabilitated, and must advise the Minister (and, where appropriate, the Minister responsible for Local Government) on the national roads programme. This section sets out how the Board is composed, how its leadership is chosen, who cannot be elected Chairman or Vice-Chairman, and how members’ names and terms are handled.
