About this statute

Member States party to the Charter must recognise the rights, duties, and freedoms stated in it and adopt legislative or other measures to give effect to them. Every person is entitled to enjoy the rights and freedoms recognised in the Charter without discrimination. Every individual is equal before the law and entitled to equal protection of the law. Every human being has a right to respect for life and personal integrity, and no one may arbitrarily take that right away. Everyone has the right to human dignity and to recognition of legal personality; exploitation, slavery, torture, and cruel or degrading treatment or punishment are prohibited.
