About this statute

Each State Party must never use, develop, produce, acquire, stockpile, retain, transfer, or help others engage in activities prohibited for cluster munitions. This article defines key terms used in the Convention, including cluster munition, victims, remnants, transfer, mines, and related technical terms. States Parties must separate cluster munitions kept for operational use from those to be destroyed, destroy them within 8 years, and report certain retention, transfer, or extension requests. Each State Party must clear and destroy cluster munition remnants in contaminated areas under its control or jurisdiction, and take related marking, protection, survey, planning, and risk-education measures. States Parties must assist cluster munition victims in areas under their control or jurisdiction and report updated information annually.
