Statute overview

About this statute

States Parties must prohibit the sale of children, child prostitution, and child pornography. Each State Party must make sure its criminal or penal law covers the listed acts and activities at least to a minimum extent. Each State Party must take measures to establish jurisdiction over the listed offences in the territory, on registered ships or aircraft, and in certain nationality/residence/extradition cases. This article makes the listed offences extraditable between States Parties and requires the requested State to follow its own law; if extradition is refused because of nationality, the case must be sent to competent authorities for prosecution. States Parties must help one another with investigations, criminal proceedings, and extradition cases covered by article 3(1), including obtaining needed evidence.
