Statute overview

About this statute

This Order establishes curricula for pre-primary, primary, secondary, professional, adult, and technical/vocational education from level 1 to level 5. The curriculum content and teaching hours are set out in annex I for pre-primary, primary, secondary general, professional and adult education, and in annex II for technical and vocational education and training levels 1 to 5. Every learner in each category must study at least citizenship, mathematics, English, Kinyarwanda, and ICT. In pre-primary, primary, adult education, and secondary ordinary level, learners study the same subjects nationwide under the programmes set for each cycle. Upper secondary education is divided into general and professional tracks, and learners choose one listed combination or study area; the Minister of Education may change teaching hours or subjects when necessary.
