Statute overview

About this statute

This Order governs the importation and exportation of wild animals. This article defines key terms used in the Order. It is forbidden to bring, keep, or transport harmful organisms on Rwanda’s national territory, except that the environment minister may allow specialized institutions to import them for research or experimental purposes. People who own, hold, or transport animal specimens must let authorized agents enter specified places to inspect for harmful organisms and, if needed, quarantine them. Animal imports need a license, and imported animals should have a health certificate; the authority also must inspect animal specimens within 14 days after importation or before exportation.
