Statute overview
About this statute
Ratifying ILO members must provide compensation for occupational diseases, including for dependants after death, and the compensation rate must not be lower than the national industrial-accident rate. A ratifying ILO Member must treat certain substance-related diseases and poisonings as occupational diseases when they affect workers in listed trades or industries and arise from work in covered undertakings. Formal ratifications of the Convention must be communicated to the Director-General of the International Labour Office for registration. The Convention starts to apply once two Members’ ratifications are registered by the Director-General, and later for any Member when its ratification is registered. The Director-General must notify all ILO Members when two Members’ ratifications have been registered, and also notify them of later ratifications.
