Statute overview

About this statute

A ratifying member of the International Labour Organisation must ensure compensation for workers who suffer personal injury from an industrial accident, or for their dependants, on terms at least equal to this Convention. Workmen's compensation laws apply to workers, employees, and apprentices in any public or private enterprise, with listed exceptions. This article says the Convention does not apply to seamen and fishermen covered by a later Convention, or to people covered by a special scheme with terms at least equivalent to this Convention. This Convention does not apply to agriculture. Compensation for a work injury must be paid as periodic payments, with possible lump-sum payment if the competent authority is satisfied it will be properly used.
