Statute overview

About this statute

This provision introduces a convention about discrimination in employment and occupation. This article defines “discrimination” for the Convention and says some job-specific requirements are not discrimination. Each Member must declare and pursue a national policy to promote equality of opportunity and treatment in employment and occupation. Each Member must take policy steps to promote acceptance and observance of the policy, adjust inconsistent laws and practices, apply it to employment under national control, and report annually on actions and results. Measures affecting certain suspected or involved individuals are not treated as state discrimination if the person can appeal to a competent body.
