About this statute
Each applicable ILO Member must keep a system for labour inspection in industrial workplaces. The labour inspection system applies to workplaces where labour inspectors enforce work-condition and worker-protection rules, and national laws or regulations may exempt mining and transport undertakings or parts of them. Labour inspectors must enforce labour laws, give technical advice to employers and workers, and report uncovered defects or abuses to the competent authority. Labour inspection must be placed under the supervision and control of a central authority, where compatible with the member’s administrative practice. The competent authority must make appropriate arrangements to promote cooperation and collaboration among labour inspection services, other government/public/private bodies, employers, workers, and their organisations.

Article 3
Labour inspectors must enforce labour laws, give technical advice to employers and workers, and report uncovered defects or abuses to the competent authority.

Labour inspection must be placed under the supervision and control of a central authority, where compatible with the member’s administrative practice.

The competent authority must make appropriate arrangements to promote cooperation and collaboration among labour inspection services, other government/public/private bodies, employers, workers, and their organisations.

Labour inspectors are to be recruited based on their qualifications, and the competent authority decides how those qualifications are checked.

Each Member must take measures to ensure qualified technical experts are involved in inspection work.

Labour inspectors may take steps and issue orders to fix workplace defects or require immediate measures when workers’ health or safety is at risk.
