Statute overview

About this statute

Ratifying ILO members must provide compensation for workers disabled or killed by occupational diseases, and the compensation rate cannot be below the level set for industrial accidents. Members that ratify this Convention must treat the listed diseases and poisonings as occupational diseases when the stated conditions are met. Formal ratifications of the Convention must be communicated to the Director-General of the International Labour Office for registration. The Convention binds only Members whose ratifications are registered with the Director-General, and it enters into force after the stated registration conditions and time periods. After two ratifications are registered with the International Labour Office, the Director-General must notify all ILO Members, and must also notify them of later ratifications that are registered.
