About this statute
This Law governs foundations. This law applies to foundations established in Rwanda or abroad that are registered under this law. This article defines key terms used in the law on foundations. A foundation is described as having four characteristics: separate legal personality, charitable or non-charitable objectives, legally separate property, and a beneficiary or beneficiaries named in its charter. This article classifies foundations into private-benefit, common-benefit, and mixed-benefit types.

This article defines key terms used in the law on foundations.

A foundation’s charter must state a name ending in “Foundation”, and the name must not be misleading, immoral, or contain certain restricted words.
