Statute overview

About this statute

This Organic Law’s purpose is to set the Senate’s internal rules. Senators must be elected or nominated according to the Constitution, and before taking office they must take the oath before the President of the Republic or, if absent, the President of the Supreme Court. Senators must file a faithful declaration of assets with the Ombudsman after taking office, every year, and when their term ends. A Senator’s term is eight years and cannot be renewed, except for former Heads of State who become Senators under Article 82 of the Constitution. A Senator is to be given an immunity card when necessary.
