Statute overview

About this statute

This article creates the National Geology and Mines Authority (OGMR) and gives it legal personality, administrative and financial autonomy. OGMR’s headquarters is in Kigali, and it may move elsewhere in Rwanda or open branches elsewhere if necessary. OGMR has several responsibilities in geology and mining, including research, technology promotion, standards support, training, supervision, publication, policy participation, concession valuation assistance, and cooperation with similar bodies. OGMR must use universities, research labs, and support services to help carry out its mission, and must set up concrete scientific cooperation mechanisms. OGMR is supervised by the Ministry in charge of geology and mines, and the Ministry and the Board of Directors must sign a performance contract.
