Statute overview

About this statute

The Agreement applies to measures by Members affecting trade in services, and it defines key terms used in that scope. Members must give services and service suppliers of other Members treatment no less favourable than comparable foreign services and suppliers, subject to listed exemptions. Members must publish relevant measures and certain international agreements promptly, share key service-trade laws and changes, answer information requests, and set up enquiry points; confidential information does not have to be disclosed in specified cases. Developed country Members, and other Members where possible, must set up contact points within two years to help developing country service suppliers get market information. Members may join certain services-integration agreements if the listed conditions are met, and labour-market integration agreements may exempt citizens from residency and work-permit requirements. Parties must notify and report certain agreements to the Council for Trade in Services.
