[28th February 2020] Supplement to Official Gazette i ANTI-CORRUPTION (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2020 (Bill No. 4 of 2020) OBJECTS AND REASONS The Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Bill, 2020 (Bill No. 2 of 2020) was published in the Official Gazette on 4th February, 2020 and laid before this August House for consideration. In view of the enactment of the said legislation, certain consequential amendments are required to be made in the Anti-Corruption Act, 2016 (Act 2 of 2016) to expand the functions of the Anti-Corruption Commission. This Bill seeks to amend section 5 of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2016 (Act 2 of 2016) to empower the Anti-corruption Commission to investigate money- laundering aspects in corruption cases. ENACTED by the President and the National Assembly. 1. This Act may be cited as the Anti-Corruption Short title and (Amendment) Act, 2020 and shall come into operation on such commencement date as the Minister responsible for Finance may appoint, by Notice published in the Gazette. iv Supplement to Official Gazette [28th February 2020] 2. In section 5 of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2016, by Act 2 of 2016 repealing paragraph (a) of subsection (1) and substituting therefor the following paragraph — “(a) to enquire into and conduct investigation of offences relating to corruption and money laundering offences in furtherance of such corrupt practices;”.
