Statute overview

About this statute

This Bill would create a new communications law and give the regulator and Minister powers over licensing, competition, spectrum, privacy, complaints, and enforcement. The provision sets licensing, appeal, consultation, competition, and consumer-protection rules for electronic communications and broadcasting, and gives the Authority powers to grant, review, suspend, and regulate licences. This segment sets compliance rules for operators, including consumer complaints, interconnection/access cooperation, tariff controls, and limits on personal data processing. Operators must protect communications and service security, notify subscribers about breaches, and follow rules on data retention, numbering, emergency access, spectrum use, and broadcasting licences. Broadcasting service operators must follow prescribed codes, maintain complaint procedures, and treat political advertising fairly; the Authority and Tribunal can investigate disputes and impose penalties.
