Short title 1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Vaccination Ordinance, 1854. Vaccination centres to be established 2. (1) A Council Committee may appoint convenient places for the performance of vaccination. (2) In the event of the death, illness, absence or inability of the person with parental responsibility for a child mentioned in subsection (1), the person who has the care, nurture or custody of the child must within 4 months after the birth of the child comply with that subsection (3) The Senior Medical Officer/Clinical Director or medical officer or practitioner, as the case may be, must, as soon as a child is brought to him or her under this section, or as soon after as it may conveniently and properly be done, vaccinate the said child. Child to be medically examined 8 days after vaccination 4. Upon the 8th day following the day on which any child has been vaccinated as aforesaid, the father or mother or other person having the care, nurture or custody of the child must again take the child, or cause the child to be taken, the Senior Medical Officer/Clinical Director, medical officer or practitioner by whom the operation was performed, in order that the result of the operation may be ascertained by inspection. Certificate of vaccination to be given 5. (1) Upon and immediately after the successful vaccination of any child as aforesaid the Senior Medical Officer/Clinical Director, medical officer or practitioner who performed the operation must - (a) give to the father or mother of the child, or to the person who at the relevant time had the care, nurture or custody of the child, a certificate under his or her hand that the child has been successfully vaccinated; and (b) transmit a duplicate of the certificate to the Registrar-General. (2) A certificate given under subsection (1) is, without further proof, admissible as evidence of the successful vaccination of the child to whom it relates in any information or complaint which is brought against the father or mother of the child or against the person who had the care, nurture or custody of the child at the relevant time for non-compliance with this Ordinance. (1) The Registrar-General, on or within 7 days after the registration of the 3 birth of any child not already vaccinated within St Helena, must - (a) give notice in writing to the person with parental responsibility for the child or, in the event of the death, illness, absence or inability from sickness or otherwise of that person, to the person upon whom the care, nurture or custody of the child has devolved, that it is the duty of the person with parental responsibility for the child or that other person to take care that the child is vaccinated in the manner directed by this Ordinance; and (b) also give notice to the person of the days, hours, and places at which the Senior Medical Officer/Clinical Director, medical officer or practitioner will attend for the purpose of vaccination. (2) If after receiving a notice under subsection (1) the person with parental responsibility for a child, or person having the care, nurture or custody of a child, does not cause the child to be vaccinated, or does not on the 8th day after the vaccination has been performed take the child, or cause the child to be taken, for inspection according to this Ordinance, that person commits an offence.
