About this statute

Section 12 is amended so that certain heads of department must serve full-time for five years (or a shorter approved period), and a person appointed to that office must be a South African citizen. Certain officers may retire at age 65, with an exception for employees already in post before the 1996 amendment commencement who may retire under the retirement age or date in the law then applicable to them. This provision says the Act may be called the Public Service Amendment Act, 1996.
