About this statute

This section is an amendment provision that changes section 3A of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act, 2003. Kingships or queenships must establish a council within two years after recognition or, for certain existing cases, within two years of the 2018 Amendment Act’s commencement. Certain traditional leadership entities must establish a council within two years when recognized or within two years of the 2018 amendment’s commencement, depending on the category. Traditional councils in the relevant kingship or queenship area must elect members in the required numbers, including extra elections when too few people were elected and adjustment when too many were elected. The section amends how traditional councils choose members for the principal traditional council.
