About this statute

This section says you need a permit to establish, provide, or run a disposal site, and the Minister can issue, change, cancel, or refuse permits. The Minister must keep a register of permitted disposal sites and may issue Gazette directions about disposal sites and waste handling. No one may discard waste except at a permitted disposal site or under conditions the Minister prescribes. Adds a paragraph allowing compulsory charging, deposits, or related financial measures on waste types or specified items in waste types, with the Minister of Finance’s concurrence. This section says new sections are inserted into the principal Act after section 24A, including a section titled “Regulations regarding products”. The Minister may make regulations about products that may harm the environment or human health, and must follow a consultation process first.
