This section gives the Act’s short title and says it starts on a date set by the Minister in a Gazette notice. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including Act, Board, Minister, Register, Registrar, town planning, and town planner. People and authorities exercising powers under this Act must follow the listed town-planning principles when applying or interpreting it. A Town Planners Registration Board is established to regulate town planners, and the Minister may amend the First Schedule. The Board must carry out a set of functions for town planning regulation, registration, training, discipline, advice, and public assistance.

Section 1
The Registrar may ask a town planner for information about practising as a town planner, either on the Registrar’s own motion or when instructed by the Board.
Section 14
The Board’s funds come from Parliament appropriations, Government grants or loans, borrowing, and other sums payable or vested in the Board under the Act or other written law.
Section 26
The Hoard may regulate its own procedure, but only subject to this Schedule and any regulations made under the Act.
