This Act may be cited by its short title, and it starts on a date appointed by the Minister in the Gazette. This Act applies to Mainland Tanzania and Tanzania Zanzibar. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including the Authority, Board, meteorological services, and related meteorology and climate concepts. This section establishes the Tanzania Meteorological Authority and gives it corporate powers, a sole mandate over certain meteorological data and products, and duties connected to court matters. The Authority must carry out meteorology-related public and commercial services and several specific operational functions, and it may also develop meteorological software and equipment.

Section 1
A person permitted to do meteorological weather forecasting or weather modification must report to the Authority during and after the activity.
Section 20
The Authority’s expenditure must be approved by the Board for the relevant financial year, and the Director General must ensure payments are properly made and authorized.
Section 38
The Director General and certain existing Tanzania Meteorological Agency office holders continue in office when the Act starts and are treated as appointed by the new Authority.
Section 57
Board members are entitled to fees and allowances that are set by the Board and approved by the Treasury Registrar.
