The Merchant Shipping (Counting and Registration of Persons on Board Passenger Ships) (Amendment) Regulations, 2021

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Counting and Registration of Persons on Board Passenger Ships) (Amendment) Regulations, 2021 and shall be read as one with the Merchant Shipping (Counting and Registration of Persons on Board Passenger Ships) Regulations, hereinafter referred to as the “principal Regulations”. General amendment by-

The principal Regulations are amended generally (a) deleting the word “Authority” wherever it appears in the Regulations and substituting for it the word “Corporation”; (b) deleting the words “Registrar of Ships” wherever they appear in the Regulations and substituting for them the word “Registrar”. The principal Regulations are amended in regulation 3, by- (a) designating the content of subregulation (1) as regulation 3; (b) deleting the “Authority” and “Registrar of Ships”; the definition of terms (c) deleting the words “the Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority” appearing in the definition of the term “merchant shipping 1 Merchant Shipping (Counting and Registration of Persons on Board Passenger Ships) (Amendment) GN. NO.818 (Contd.) notice” and substituting for them the words “the Agencies Corporation”; Tanzania Shipping (d) deleting the words “regulation 9(1)(b) of” term the definition of the in appearing “passenger registrar”; (e) deleting the definition of the term “ship” and substituting for it the following: ““ship” means a floating vessel which is self-propelled and capable of carrying passengers or cargo and includes every description of vessel used in navigation;”; (f) adding in the appropriate alphabetical order the following new definitions: ““Corporation” means the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation established under the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Act;”. “Registrar” means the Registrar appointed under section 31 of the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Act; “vessel” includes any ship, boat, sailing vessel, ferry or other vessel of any description used in navigation;”. 4. The principal Regulations are amended in regulation 8 by designating the content of subregulation (1) as regulation 8. Amendment of regulation 10

6. The principal Regulations are amended in regulation 12, by- (a) deleting the words “regulation 9(1)” appearing in the opening phrase and substituting for them the words “regulation 9”; (b) deleting the words “specified in regulation (1)” appearing in paragraph (a).
