1. COMMON CHARACTERISTICS FOR ALL BANKNOTES (i) OBVERSE: (a) The upper off-centre depicts the Coat of Arms of the United Republic of Tanzania. (b) On the top-centre of the banknote and above the main Motif are the legend "BENKI KUU YA TANZANIA” and the promissory clause of the respective denomination. (c) Below the main Motifs are the respective facsimile signatures of the Minister for Finance and Planning and that of the Governor of the Bank of Tanzania. (d) The unprinted area on the left of the banknote contains a watermark and a highlight revealing the portrait of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere and 2 Bank of Tanzania (Issuance of Reprinted Bank Notes) GN NO. 135 (contd.) the respective denomination value, when held to the light. (e) The words in Kiswahili and figures depicting the respective denomination value of the banknote are indicated at the top left and bottom right corners of the respective banknotes. (f) The bank notes carry two identical serial numbers in Novel format; one horizontally at the lower left quadrant and vertically at the right edge of the banknote. Each number has two alphabetical prefixes. (g) A Perfect See-through registering back to front, the respective denomination figure when held to the light below the top left denomination value. (h) Fluorescent block at the centre of the banknote left of the Main Motif. When viewed under UV light it fluorescents revealing the denomination figure at the top of the band and at the bottom the prefix letters of the currency reading "TZS". (i) Micro text lines, both flat and in relief. (j) Latent image in which the denomination value appears in shadow and turns lighter when the banknote is tilted. (k) A thin windowed security thread (ROLLING STAR) with moving image in the banknotes of 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000. (l) The print for the Main Motif, the Coat of Arms, denominational figures, the legend "BENKI KUU the YA TANZANIA", micro-letterings denominational sign for the blind are in intaglio giving the banknote a special tactile feeling. and (m) REVERSE: (ii) (a) Each denomination has a dedicated Vignette. (b) The words "BANK OF TANZANIA" are printed on the top left side of the banknote. (c) The denomination figures are printed at both the top right and the bottom left corners of the banknotes. (d) The wordings for respective denominations are in English and are printed in bold capital letters at the bottom right handside of the banknotes.

2.2. TZS 5000/=: (i) Obverse: (a) A tactile main Motif of the head of a Rhinoceros at the middle of the right half of the banknote. (b) Afeature called Spark in golden colour which changes to green and back to gold with a rolling bar effect. (c) Tactile denomination sign for the blind; presented as two sets of twin thick short lines forming two inverted V- like shapes, placed at the bottom left corner. tilting the banknote, (d) There is a thin windowed security thread of
