About this statute
This Act may be cited as the Penal Code and is referred to as “this Code”. This section is titled “Disapplication of Indian Penal Code.” This section preserves certain existing liabilities and powers, and prevents a person from being punished twice for the same offence under this Code and another listed law. This Code must be interpreted using ordinary construction principles for written law, subject to the Interpretation of Laws Act and defined expressions in the Code. This section defines many terms used in the Code, such as court, dwelling house, harm, offence, public place, and utter.
