About this statute

This section gives the Act’s short title: the Commissions of Inquiry Act. This section defines several terms used in the Act, including “Commission,” “Commissioner,” “inquiry,” and “Minister.” The President may set up a Commission of Inquiry, appoint Commissioners, and give them authority to investigate listed public matters. The President may order an investigation before deciding whether to issue a commission, and the Attorney General and authorised officers have powers to require and examine information; non-compliance with banker’s book requests is an offence. The President may appoint a replacement Commissioner if one cannot or will not act or dies, and may alter or revoke a Commission issued under the Act.
