About this statute
This section gives the short title: the Act may be cited as the Public Holidays Act. The days listed in the Schedule must be observed as public holidays every year. The President may declare an additional day, or substitute another day, as a public holiday by proclamation. The head of a Government department may open the department’s offices and works, and may call employees to do their duties on a public holiday if he thinks fit. Section 5 is repealed.
