“This section gives the Act’s short title: it may be cited as the Co-operative and Rural Development Bank (Repeal and Transitional Provisions) Act.”
This section gives the Act’s short title: it may be cited as the Co-operative and Rural Development Bank (Repeal and Transitional Provisions) Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including assets, Bank, Company, liabilities, Minister, and transitional period. The Company is made a body corporate with power to hold property, sue and be sued, and exercise functions given by this Act or other written law. The bank’s objects include providing long- and medium-term finance for rural development, giving technical assistance and advice, and doing other activities needed or helpful for those objects. This section creates a transitional period of up to six months to complete measures needed to wind up the Bank’s affairs and business and transfer its assets and liabilities, subject to the Act.

Section 1
The Company is made a body corporate with power to hold property, sue and be sued, and exercise functions given by this Act or other written law.
Section 3
The bank’s objects include providing long- and medium-term finance for rural development, giving technical assistance and advice, and doing other activities needed or helpful for those objects.
Section 4
Bank employees are transferred to the Company from the effective date, and their terms of employment must not be less favourable. The Company also remains liable for certain pension benefits to qualifying former Bank employees.

This section repeals the Co-operative and Rural Development Bank Act, No. 7 of 1971.
