Statute overview

About this statute

This section says the Act may be cited as the Assayers Act. This provision defines key terms used in the Act and introduces a heading about assaying only under a licence. A person must not practise assaying for reward, or present themselves as ready to do so, unless they hold an assayer’s licence issued by the Board under this Act. Applications for assayer’s licences must be made to the Board, the prescribed fee must be paid, and licences expire each 31 December unless renewed. A general assayer’s licence lets its holder practise assaying for reward, and the Board may require an applicant to sit an examination before issuing the licence.
