About this statute

This section says the Act may be cited as the Road Traffic Act. This section defines many terms used in the Act, such as bicycle, driver, motor vehicle, road, traffic sign, and trailer. The Minister responsible for finance may appoint a Registrar of Motor Vehicles, and may also appoint Deputy Registrars for specified parts of Tanzania, by notice in the Gazette. The Minister must appoint vehicle inspectors and examining officers by Gazette notice, and may appoint additional officers needed to carry out the Act. The Registrar must keep specified vehicle and licence registers, and ensure Deputy Registrars keep related registers. Police officers may inspect the registers on demand and copy entries.
