About this statute

This Act may be cited as the National Defence Act. This section says the Act applies to Tanzania Zanzibar, Mainland Tanzania, the Defence Forces, military reserve forces, and persons subject to the Code of Service of Discipline, including some persons inside and outside Tanzania. This section defines terms used in the Act, including active service, aircraft, possession, service offence, and Defence Forces Regulations. A public department called the Department of National Defence must be constituted and maintained. The Minister controls and manages the Defence Forces and national defence matters, subject to the President, Commander-in-Chief, Constitution, this Act, or the Council.
