Purpose and legislative effect
“This Act may be cited as the Business Names Act.”
This Act may be cited as the Business Names Act. This section defines words and phrases used in the Act. The Minister may appoint a Registrar, Deputy Registrars, and Assistant Registrars for this Act. Deputy and Assistant Registrars may do acts or duties the Registrar may lawfully do or must do, but only under the Registrar’s directions. Certain firms, individuals, and corporations with a place of business in Tanzania must be registered under this Act. A business in Tanzania that mainly acts as a nominee, trustee, or general agent for another person or a foreign firm must be registered and provide the Schedule particulars, unless it is run by a court-appointed receiver, manager, or trustee.

This Act may be cited as the Business Names Act.
Section 1
For a registration statement, an individual must sign it, a corporation must have it signed by a director or secretary, and a firm must have it signed in the ways stated here; in some firm cases, the signature must also be verified by statutory declaration.…
Section 7
People or firms required to file particulars must do so on time, unless they have a reasonable excuse. Failure can lead to court orders and fines.
Section 13
The Registrar must keep a register of business names, enter the names of registered firms and persons, and assign each business name a registration number.
Section 19
If a person breaks a provision of the Act that has no specific penalty, that person commits an offence and may be fined, imprisoned for up to 12 months, or both.
