About this statute
This section gives the Act its short title and says it must be read together with the African Chiefs Ordinance (Repeal) Act. Chiefs’ traditional or customary-law functions, powers, and authorities are abolished, and anyone who exercises them after abolition commits an offence. This section repeals the African Chiefs Ordinance and lets the Minister responsible for local government keep certain existing members in office by order despite the repeal.
