Statute overview

About this statute

This section says the Act may be cited as the Land Acquisition Act. This section defines terms used in the Act, including corporation, Court, land, Minister, minor settlement, municipality, and township. The President may acquire land for any estate or term when it is required for a public purpose, subject to this Act. This section lists when land is treated as required for a public purpose, and lets the President declare that certain corporate land needs count as a public purpose if approved by the National Assembly and published in the Gazette. If the President wants land examined for possible public acquisition, a Minister-authorised person may enter, survey, bore, and mark it. Damage caused must be paid for, and special notice rules apply before entering certain buildings or enclosed areas.
