Statute overview

About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title: the Public Recreation Grounds Act. This provision defines “local government authority” and “recreation ground.” Land that was vested in the Committee of Control before this Act starts is vested in the Minister when the Act comes into operation, and the Minister may deal with it under the Land Act as public land. The Minister may, after request or consultation with the local government authority, declare public land to be a public recreation ground, and may later declare it to stop being one in specified cases. A local government authority must maintain, control, and manage a public recreation ground in its area or nearby, if the land has been declared a public recreation ground by the Minister.
